The Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) was developed by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) to provide a structured method for evaluating wines.
It becomes an important and familiar part of WSET studies (and beyond) and provides a common framework and terminology to describe any wine relevant for your WSET level.
By following and eventually memorising the SAT, students are able to:
Build the habit of evaluating wines, even outside classroom environment.
Understand different wine characteristics and how they relate
Learn to use a standardized lexicon to ensures that descriptions of wines are consistent and understandable across different individuals, languages and cultures.
Calibrate their palates to recognize specific flavors, acidity levels, tannins, and other structural elements. This calibration is essential for wine professionals who need to evaluate wines consistently and accurately.
Maximize chances of passing the Level 3 and 4 examinations that include tasting.
Candidates use SAT from Level 1 all the way to Level 4 Diploma. The level of detail increases with every qualification but they are all built on the same framework.
