  • Northern Piedmont – Italy’s Rediscovered Treasure

    Often overshadowed by its famous neighbours Barolo and Barbaresco, Northern Piedmont is a remarkable wine region deserving far greater recognition. It is a source of refined and elegant expressions of Nebbiolo—known locally as Spanna—alongside compelling indigenous grape varieties. The quality is often exceptional, positioning Northern Piedmont as the next great frontier for Nebbiolo.

     

    After a historical peak, the region languished through much of the 20th century. In recent decades, however, it has gradually reclaimed its spot on Italy’s fine wine map, with revived old vineyards, new plantings, and a surge of producers—both historic estates and dynamic newcomers—fueling a well-deserved renaissance. Amid climate change, its cooler hills draw interest from wineries further south.
