Any places in Valencia to taste local wines?
I will soon spend a few days in Valencia and am curious to try local wines. I won't have the time to travel and visit wineries but was wondering if anybody could recommend any bars or restaurants in Valencia that serve wines from Alto Turia (the high altitude zone) and the Merseguera grape. I know this is very niche and so I much appreciate any recommendations!
"Rioja | The Smart Traveller’s Wine Guide", Fintan Kerr
Hello, everyone! I have recently finished reading this fantastic concise, yet very informative book by a friend of mine: 'Rioja, The Smart Traveller’s Wine Guide'. It is a fantastic pocket guide to the region, that can serve as a vintage guide, help navigate the region's key wine styles and of course find some inspiration for your next trip to this iconic region! It is published at Academie du Vin, and is also available on Amazon. https://academieduvinlibrary.com/products/rioja-the-smart-travellers-wine-guide
Exploring Biodynamic, Low-Intervention Wines in Vipava Valley
Hi everyone,
I’ve been exploring biodynamic and low-intervention wines in the Vipava Valley in Slovenia recently, and I’m absolutely captivated by the region. The area is stunning, with a unique microclimate that seems perfect for producing vibrant, expressive wines with minimal intervention.
One winery that really stands out is Burja Estate. They’ve fully embraced biodynamic principles to create truly distinctive wines that reflect the local terroir. I recently tried their Burja Bela, which was absolutely delightful – fresh, complex, and so expressive of the region.
I’m curious – do any of you have recommendations for other biodynamic or low-intervention producers in the Vipava Valley? Or perhaps on the Italian side, in the Friuli region? I’d love to discover more hidden gems, especially from winemakers who focus on letting the land and climate speak for themselves.
Looking forward to your suggestions! 🍷
For anyone who has a chance to travel to Slovenia, there's the Orange Wine Festival in Izola on April 25th. That way, you can meet many makers from Vipava and other parts of Slovenia all at once 🙂
Sherry in Jerez de la Frontera
Hey all,
I am planning another trip to Sevilla and Jerez de la Frontera for next year and I would love some recommendations. I have actually been briefly before and promised myself to come back. last time we were lucky enough to get a private tour of the Bodegas Tradicion, which I can only recommend to anyone passing through the region - the sherry is of exceptional quality and the Bodegas is also home to one of the biggest private art collections in Andalusia. An absolute must-see for art and wine lovers.
Now I am planning to go back for at least a week and explore the region even more. Any wineries I should visit? Does anyone have bars / wine shops / restaurant recommendations?
Oh fantastic! I'm adding it to the list. We didn't make it to Cadiz last time so this is also a good reason to add it to the itinerary this time :)
Thank you @Shane Jones ! I will definitely check these out 🍷 I never say no to a glass of great Sherry or bubbles and am always curious about foodie hotspots :) Thank you for the tips! It's really strange and somehow typical for some Spanish and Italian wine regions that you cannot find any local wines. I don't know if it's a lack of trust in the local product, commercial considerations or consumer preferences or else... but imagine, you're travelling through Germany and there's not a single glass of Riesling to try! I won't give up though and ask around as I'd really like to try these wines. I'll report back if I find any places that offer them😊
